🤖 AMAZON TRIALING HUMANOID ROBOTS

Amazon is currently testing humanoid robots named "Digit" in its US warehouses. The company emphasizes that this move aims to "free" employees for more customer-centric tasks.

Amazon’s Digit, at 175cm, can walk around and interact like a human.

Digit, unlike traditional robots, has arms and legs, allowing it to move and handle items similarly to humans. This design enables it to navigate steps and stairs, providing more versatility within the warehouse.

Amazon's move aligns with the burgeoning robotics market, which is forecasted to reach $45 billion by 2030 for industrial robots alone. The global robotics market is projected to grow to reach $218 billion by 2030.

💲 OVERPAYING AMAZON for SHIPPING?

Amazon has auto-enrolled select sellers into its new FBA Multiple Destinations Program without explicit consent, potentially leading to increased shipping costs for some.

This program, as detailed by upcoming BDSS 9 Virtual (Feb 21-22) speakers Jon Derkits and Chelsea Cohen, has been in effect since 2021. Under the scheme, sellers get a slight discount on fulfillment fees, but in return, they need to split their inbound FBA shipments into three smaller packages.

This differs from Amazon's usual practice, especially impacting FTL (full truckload) shipments, which get divided into multiple LTL (less than truckload) shipments, thus raising costs.

This method is beneficial for Amazon, reducing its cross-docking labor and transit expenses. However, many sellers have experienced heightened shipping fees and logistical complications.

The program is hard to locate within Amazon's platform. The only known way to opt-out is by opening a case with Seller Central. Derkits stresses the importance of initiating the case via email.
