🕵️ SEARCH ENGINE EVERYWHERE OPTIMIZATION TACTIC
You already know getting mentions this holiday season in major publications can help your credibility and drive a lot of sales.
But more importantly, it is also becoming crucial as more and more people turn to AI instead of Google for search queries, and AI trusts major vetted publications.
It’s no longer just “Search Engine Optimization” - it’s now “Search Everywhere Optimization.”
As an Amazon seller, you need to optimize for RUFUS, COSMO as well as AI searches done on Perplexity and SearchGPT so that AI recommends your brand over others.
One of the fastest ways you can currently do that is by getting listed on high profile product roundups.
A product roundup is an article or other form of media that features several products within a category or theme.
The purpose of a product roundup is to describe and compare several similar or related products and help the reader decide what to purchase.
Here are some major sites you should try to get your product mentioned on, courtesy of Matt Kostan at ProductPinion:
In addition to these major players, look for other smaller niche sites in your specific industry. The more mentions you have, the more impossible it becomes for ChatGPT or any AI to ignore you.
Example of a product roundup site
Step 1: Identify Your Product Category
Start by pinpointing the exact category on Forbes Vetted that best matches your product. This ensures your pitch is relevant and targeted.
Step 2: Connect with the Author
Find the author who covers your product category. A quick Google search of their name often leads to their portfolio or personal website, where they usually list their contact details. LinkedIn can also be a valuable resource for this.
Step 3: Craft a Compelling Pitch
Your initial email is your chance to make a strong impression. Here’s a template that’s worked well:
Subject: Category question
Would you be interested in adding a new category to <url>?
We make x and it’s different because y. Think your readers will like it (but of course I’m biassed) :)
The idea is to be short and to the point. Shorter subject lines typically work better too
Step 4: Follow-Up is Key
Persistence pays off. If you haven’t heard back after a week or so, don’t hesitate to send a polite follow-up. Many successful placements come from diligent follow-ups, not the initial contact.
Step 5: Prepare for Response
Be ready for various outcomes. The author might request more information, a product sample, or they might inform you about the next steps and when they plan to update their article. Sometimes, they might add your product immediately.
